Have you ever had a hard time starting a fire on a pit or a file of wood debris?

I use a leaf blower with the tiger torch and occasionally use some sawdust soaked with used motor oil.

Normally, I start my brush piles with a 8oz squirt bottle of waste oil with a small amount of gas mixed in. Squirted on shop rags in the pile it usally starts easily.

Lots of good techniques posted.
I generally fluff up the pile with the loader, splash a gallon or so of diesel on the pile then light it off with a 15 minute road flare.

When I first moved here there was a big pile of old logs I wanted to get rid of. Those logs were so waterlogged that they wouldn't ignite no matter what I did. Finally just cut them up & pushed them into the woods with the tractor.
I don't typically burn brush, etc., just pile it in windrows around the edge of the fields and let it rot down while providing shelter for wildlife. Rots down pretty fast.

As far as firepit, newspaper/kindling/matches does the trick.
