And when I started it up this weekend it sounded like it clattered more than normal. Not like it was going to blow any minute but louder than I remember it being.

The tractor has 28 hours on it, oil level is good and clean, no smoke. The tractor stays in a barn when not in use.It has a bit less than a half full tank and the diesel was from the last time I used the tractor to mow some acres. I let it idle a bit and after a few minutes all sounded good.

I am wondering if I have a problem here or the oil had just all drained to the pan and it took a couple minutes to recirculate it back up to the topend or .....

Any thoughts?

I think your oil just drained down over the month. The oil filter drains down too and the engine has to run a bit to circulate the oil. If you're up to the full mark on the stick and the noise is gone, I'd say all is well.

I've found with my DK35 that if I cycle the glow plugs a second time in cold weather the rattle at startup is a lot less. If you were starting it in cold weather try that next time.

I wouldn't give it a seconds thought, SOP.

Yeah, the oil had drained down and just needed to be recirculated again. It's normal, so don't worry. Just let the engine idle for a minute or two before taking off.

Shame on you.

Seriously though, mine knocks every time I start it, and even more when it is even remotely cold out. Its stored indoors.

Not sure about the DK, but the factory Kioti filter for my 3054xs has no anti-drain valve, which allows oil to drain back to the sump after a moderate shut down period. I found a NAPA filter, with the valve, and have not had a problem since;the oil light goes out immediatley upon startup and stays out. With the factory filter the light would go off at startup and then come back on for a brief period, indicating a lack of oil pressure: Not Good
