That looks good to me. Not that I know anything about hay, but I wouldn't have bet that you grew it up there..
Nice pics!

Dang it Fish, you just gotta rub it in, don't ya! :D

Seriously, I'm proud for you. Looks good. I'm glad that somebody is getting some hay. It's not us. :(

AK, in my younger days in Wisonsin, our hay fields were a combination of alfalfa, timothy, red clover and rye. Are you able to grow any of these?
What varieties are you growing?

We did have a good hay season this year. Kinda makes up for the wet, moldy one last year!

Yep... not a good situation for alot of those beef cattle folk's across a big chunk of the country! Be some cheap McDonald's for awhile... look out for next year, though --

Mostly timothy with a bit of Kentucky bluegrass thrown in there. We can grow red clover and rye along with timothy pretty well. Alfalfa not so well... winter kills too bad and hardly lasts more than a couple of years.

I try to avoid mixing clover and rye with my hay, though. Horses don't like rye too well and the clover makes curing the hay alot more difficult. The timothy will be ready to bale and the clover will still be too wet.

The weather windows are short and too variable.... and the clover can be a catastrophe!

Great for my bees, though! :D

AKfish,
Nice looking place you have there, bet that tractor is loafing along with that baler, is that a 336 or 346?

Having some hay put away sure is comforting isn't it?

Thanks, Steve. Yah, the tractor doesn't hardly know the baler's back there... It's a 336.

It sure is... been raining cat's and dogs here for 3 days straight now! But, we've got 8 month's of hay in the barn and still have good grass for at least the next 2+ months of grazing.

It can rain and rain if it wants to....

Sure would be nice if we had one (or several) of those big High Pressure systems park in the North Pacific, though. Tends to push those big, WET low pressure systems into Washington, Oregon and California - like this past Spring - when all that snow and rain hit the Rockies, Cascades and Sierra Nevada mountains.

Would be very good for your part of the country...

Nah, Oregon and Washington had plenty of rain this year. ;) Besides, a few more weeks and it should be back, wow, we will have had a 4 week summer! :confused2:
