Hello, I have a few ??? for you. What do you think of Bellon disc mowers? Do they cut good and hold up? They sure are alot cheaper than the name brands.
I thought shaft-driven mowers took less hp. than gear driven, yet Vermeer recommends 70hp. for a 7 disc, would my 5610 Ford handle one ok? How heavy is the Vermeer, compared to my old Deere 260? My cousin has a 617 New Holland, he pulls it with a 60hp. tractor, no problem, but that sucker is just to heavy and costs more than a Vermeer.

I appreciate your thoughts.

those mowers are just like anything else, you get what you pay for. as far as cutting, they will probably cut as good as any of the others.from my experience when you get away from the major brands, what you will run into down the road will be problems getting parts if you have trouble with it.spend a little extra up front & you will be better satis fied down the road, imo.

Vermeer makes a good cutter. I think your 5610 is a little small to be pulling a 9ft 3pt mower. You could probably pull a TM 700 with it.

My 5610 has run a 6 disk JD mower for years and never once knew it was even back there, I'm a little concerned about the weight of the Vermeer. I pull a 4x6 baler with this tractor for the last 5 years, so I don't think power will be much of an issue.

It's not the weight I would be worried about, its the length. 9 foot creates alot of drag.

Realize Vermeer is self-insured for the first few million $$$ so the are so safety conscious they over-state the minimums. We use a 9' mower on a 2 wd 2355 JD all the time with no problems. A Ford 5610 is a bigger tractor that a JD2355. You will have no problems with a 5610 in good shape if you are trying to use Vermeer 9' mower on a 5610 Ford tractor.

It has been my experience that 5 & 6 disc Bellon mowers give better service than their 7 disc or 9' mowers. They will cut fine but their frame is a little lighter made than other mfg's using the Comer oil-bath cutter-bar. Remember most disc mowers all cut the same because they are using the same type blades and disc's. The main difference in mowers are parts availability and how long it takes to fix them if there is downtime.

The Bellon is a good mower for normal applications. If you're a large hay producer with several hundred acres, you would probably be better off with a Case, New Holland, Kuhn etc. but if you want a good mower and don't want to spend alot, the Bellon would be a great choice. The hitch is heavier than some of the other imported mowers with the solid oil bath bars.
