Reply I received from Haynes VP to my msg about tractor repair manuals:

Thank you for your e-mail, I appreciate it. 1/7/2015

As you may or may not be aware, Haynes Manuals purchased the Clymer and I&T line of manuals from Penton Publishing in September of 2013. Included in the sale was the complete line of the I&T Tractor books. The timing of your e-mail is ironic in that we have just been talking about what we could do in the I&T line to add new content. The current line of I&T titles cover tractors from essentially the 30's through the 70's. Tractor Shop Service Repair Manuals from Clymer

We would like to add new content, but realize the audience for the new content is a little different than the audience for a 1930 Ford 8N. It sounds like there may be an opportunity as you have outlined below, but it will take some research on our part to see if it is a viable project. The content is produced by acquiring the machine, doing a complete disassembly of the machine, photographing the process and reassembling everything. The process is a large undertaking and one we need to feel confident in, with regards to a return on our investment, before beginning.

I will pass your e-mail on to our editorial director and ask him to review it further. A project like this can take up to a year from research to production. Please know I thank you for your e-mail and will definitely pass it on for consideration.

Sincerely,
Matt Tusken, Vice President - Powersport, Marine, Ag Sales, Haynes Publishing

Glad you got a response. Looks like we will be stuck with buying the OEM service manuals at a high price.
I would think when someone buys a tractor at $20,000 to >$100,000 the manufacturer could afford to include a service manual as well as the operator manual.

Or... just give owners access to online PDF service and repair manual. Of course corporate greed plays into it.
If they would THINK just a little, the mfr would make more money selling OEM parts, accessories and specialty tools which their repair manuals would generate.
If every repair manual they gave to owners included parts list and OEM numbers and order forms etc...
Oh but to dream...

I think it is more to get you to take the machine to the dealer for service and repairs.

I think you are correct. But that's part of the greed issue. It's not like I want to split the tractor and rebuild the tranny. But I do want to perform all heavy maintenance and adjustment. The cost of getting the tractor to and from a dealership for major maintenance and adjustment, exceeds their bill. Not like they exist across the street.

That is cool...I bought a Haynes manual for very my first Harley (and still have both :D). It was published in '77 and I later picked up a Clymer that extended the model years into '84. I had Chilton for my old Dodge truck and a Clymer for my old Ford Bronco2. My later Harley along with my John Deere tractor have all been the official factory repair manuals. I often find what I need to know for my Durango online these days.

I liked that early Haynes book all except for the photos grainy black and white photos cant see nothing.

The text was neat too. Tire was spelled Tyre and wrenches were all spanners! :confused2:

At the lowest price above of $20,000 for the tractor, $150 for a manual is 0.75% of the cost and would pay for itself by saving one trip to the dealer.

EXACTLY... I order the factory shop manuals with every unit I buy, when I buy it. It's included in the total payment, no biggie.

But then, some owners (pray tell not on here) shouldn't even be changing their own oil......lol

I think some of the factory manuals are better too. The factory manuals for my Kioti DK40se are head and shoulders above the old Clymer stuff I was used to seeing.

I'll bet they don't get many calls for a "1930 8 N manual" ! (since the N series tractors began in 1939!
AND I doubt seriously that they buy a vehicle and dissect it! More than likely they just buy the factory manual and come up with similar text.
I bought the GM factory manuals when I converted a 1989 Chevy from 4.3 5 speed to 5.7 with 700R4 automatic.
I got 2 large manuals and a very large "book" that covered all factory wiring, connectors and devices with color illustrations.
As someone said in the other thread, Motors Manuals were HEAVEN to use!
