Tractor
Kubota BX23
Hi,
I have a BX23, and the flashers will not shut off. I washed my tractor a couple of weeks ago, no power-washer just a garden hose, and afterwards the flashers just started doing their thing. I had to disconnect the battery to stop them. Can someone tell me what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Rob

I'd start with replacing the switch.
Cheap and easy.

I have had this happen a couple of times an my BX24 ( I assume it's the same switch, or similar) - either stuck on or have to "wiggle" to get them on.

There is a spring loaded contact in the switch that seems to corrode easily causing the issue. When you rotate the switch, contact does not move correctly and spring just stretches

I have basically pulled the switch apart, cleaned the contact and spring, lubricate and reassembled. It actually just went on me today again out in the snow. I'll take some pics this time

If you attempt it - beware of the small pieces - best to work on a table with good lighting

Buy a $2 toggle switch.
Replace.

I originally intended to to this, so decided to pull it apart. As nothing was broken, just a corroded contact - I figured buying the $50 replacement part would eventually develop the same issue

$50 for a switch?
I'm not familiar with the machine and assume any common on/off toggle would be fine.
I guess I'm wrong.
Spent $2 a piece on my light switches.

Buy a $2 toggle switch.
Replace.

That would work as well - but a little more involved since it is a combination switch assembly (headlights, turn signals and hazards) - splicing or running new wire, adding new custon toggle to the panel board, etc

The attachment below, Reference # 30, shows the switch from the BX24

Part number is K2581-62240

One thing I forgot to mention is that if I turn the hazard light switch on, then off, the flasher stay off for about 15-30 seconds, then they start flashing again.

I was wondering which switch was worth $50.
I'd take a shot at repair as well for those buck$

It could be more than the switch - but with the spring - there is some play with the switch - wiggle it around, lift up and/or push down to see if it breaks the circuit, even if temporarily

I'll probably buy a new one then fix and keep the old as a spare - will enable a 30 second swap out. The "fix" only took about 20 minutes - and that was out in the field

Mine does the same thing after I wash it if I get too much water on the dash. Just take the rad screen of and pull the wires to the hazard switch for a day...It'll dry out and be fine.

Keep meaning to find a water proof switch for mine, but this is such a rare occurance, that I forget about it.

I know this is a common problem, & I think I read somewhere that the replacement switch from Kobota is re-designed to correct this problem. Seems like that should warrant some sort of recall...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll probably start with disconnecting the wires from the switch first. If that doesn't work I'll try disassembling the switch. And if all else fails I guess I'll buy a new switch.

Biggest thing that I've found is don't soak the dash when washing...Light misting doesn't seem to cause this problem...First noticed this in 2004...Had the problem once since then..Live and learn, I still have the OEM switch.

Thanks for that link to the previous post. It made me reconsider my plan. Why bother taking the Kubota one apart, when I can buy a better one for about $8.00. I'll probably head over to a local marine store with my switch, and match it up with a marine grade one. Why O' Why would Kubota mount non-marine grade switches on there tractors knowing that there is a high probability they will be used in adverse conditions, stored outdoors, or heaven forbid... washed.
Thanks for everyones help! It is much appreciated.

This is an old and continuing problem. Many dealers have problems with units on the lots, not just Kubota. Kubota has changed the design on some models and upgraded, I changed a switch out for a friend a month or so ago and he hasn't had any problems since the change, his tractor stays outside. Before the change his flashers would just start in the middle of the night or anytime, he kept the main fuse pulled until he purchased a new switch.

You are correct: Wasing the tractor caused the OPs problem.
