hdrostat problems??

My CC 1042 will not go uphill. I have 20 hours on my mower and it went up and down my backyard hill great until the last time I mowed with it in September 2005. I did not think much about it then because it would still go but just really slow. Today I got it out to tune it up, changed the oil and all the filters, took it for a spin around the yard and it would not go up the hill. I had to push it. Is this the hydro?? If so does anyone know if it is covered under warranty, you would think that it would last longer than 20 hours.

If it just happened all at once, I'd suspect the transaxle drive belt is slipping. By chance was the tractor wet when you tried to climb the hill? Wet belts will slip like crazy. Also check that the hydro bypass lever is not on or stuck.

It was not wet. Do you know how to tighten the drive belt or what do I need to remove to get to it, the owner's manual said not to attempt this unless you were a trained professional. Is it really that difficult?

As far as I know, they have a spring loaded tensioner pulley. I'd first verify everything is in place. Hopefully someone familiar with chime in.

I am having the same problem with an LT1050 with 30 hours I bought at Lowe's. The local warranty service dealer is horrible and the store has received complaints. The service place claims to find nothing wrong but you have to be level on short grass or go downhill to move. It returned from sevice yesterday and I tried to mow and aerate today. The darn thing would come to a complete stop when pulling the aerator. We had Deere's growing up and I even had a $500 Murray that had more power in the same yard. Even though still under warranty, 26HP Kohler and only 30 hours seems I am screwed since they claim nothing is wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I really feel like I was suckered out of $2,000 right now!

I'd be real interested in hearing more re your 1050 problems and if you've been able to fix them. I just got a 1050 and have some hills that I need to mow. I've noticed that the 1050 just doesn't seem to have much power (despite its 23 horses...). I haven't even tried my hills yet because I'm afraid I'll wind up stuck somewhere. I'm thinking of taking it back -- any ideas before I do so??
