Head gasket service on a 1T GMC

   / Head gasket service on a 1T GMC #11
First off the brains in the vid say "yup thats how gm tells you to do it" well no its not. I have hung heads on d-max inframe and its alot of work but can be done. the biggest problem is removing the bolts for the turbo plumbing. Lifting the cab by the rockers is safe if you lift it in the right place, no differnt than how we lift 99% of the cars we work on. One thing an experinced tech will look at and judge is the the time it pays to replace the head gasket vs the time it pays to r&r the engine. most head gasket jobs pay 3-4 hours more than engine R&R time, in that case yank the engine and do the work on the floor. The last d-max we pulled was a head gasket job and it had to be done out of the truck due to everything was rusted up tight. That job payed 23 hours and took every bit of it. I have heard that the new style trucks from ford and gm are pretty easy to yank the cabs off. engine work on one of these is not for your weekend wrench, that is a $13,000 engine if you tear it up.
