head gasket.........(sheesh)

I have had two head gaskets replaced on my ym2002d my a dealer, somewhat through warranty along with other repairs I won't go into. The 2nd time the dealer "said" the head was sent out to head shop. The 3rd time I did it myself. I checked for head warping per Yanmar manual with a straight edge and feeler gages. Checked OK. I visibly looked for cracks which I know there are times they might not be seen with the naked eye. I torqued to the high side and have been running now for 11 months with no problems. My conclusion is the dealer was not torquing tight enough. I used same head bolts, if I had it to do over I probably would use new bolts, although some of mine are studs.

Yeah, I think 94 ft lbs is not a lot of torque for head bolts. The guy I spoke with at Hoye told me I could check for straightness w/a straight edge, and that I could check for cracks visually (knowing I may miss tiny ones a magnaflux would reveal).

I don't want to have to ship the head off the island I live on, and pay $150 bucks, if I don't absolutely have to!

What are the torque specs for your machine's head, and what torque did you use?

Mine is a 3 cylinder and I believe smaller bolts than your 2210. Mine are 29,58 and finally 72-79 ft lbs. I set on 79 and had each bolt and hole perfectly clean. I run each bolt in making sure of no resistance. I went around and around. After running the engine I rechecked the ones that were accessible without disassembly. The wrench would only click so that sort of satisfied me about the ones I couldn't access easily. I believe your 2210 is 45, 90, 130 + or - 3.6 ft lbs. PS. I have a temperature gage and have never run hot.
