Had a strange thing happen today on my 2538. Tried to shift from High to Medium mode on my Hydrostat, and the gear shift lever came off in my hand...WTF???
Naturally, I was away from my garage, but luckily I had a small tool box on the tractor. Turns out the bolt that acts as a pivot point, came out. Fortunately, the bolt stayed in the shifter. Unfortunately, I had to crawl under the tractor on some pretty uncomfortable gravel, and try to re-insert the bolt and tighten it. Took about 10 minutes to finagle it back in, but it shifts much easier now that the bolt is tight.
For those of you that have a "hard to shift" mode handle, you might want to check to see if the bolt is tight on your machine. Hope it is.
Just FYI...
