was dragging backwards with the JD loader bucket on my 4600 curled under, hear a bang and now the bucket will not curl back up just hangs there , could i have possibly broke one or both of the cylinders. Any idea as to where to start checking, my tractor is in good shape a lot of hours on it , does the loader bucket need both cylinders to curl the bucket, about yr ago had to have the value body on the controll stick replaced.

Could be a lot of things, a few questions may narrow it down:

1) Any fluid leaking from the cylinders, hoses, fittings, tubes.. all the way back to the valve?

2) What happens when you actuate the valve? Any noises, like it's going into relief? Sound of fluid flowing? Nothing?

3) Can you manually (or with the loader arms) curl the bucket? Either with, or without the curl circuit valve actuated?

What was the issue with the valve body from the past?

When you were "back dragging" did you have the bottom of the bucket flat to the ground or was it tipped in the "dump" position so just the cutting edge was touching?

Back dragging with the bucket in the dump position puts a tremendous stress on the cylinders. I would assume that you blew out the packing, bent the rod (s) or did some other damage if that was how you were dragging.

If the bucket was flat, you could have just had a quick connect come off.

no leaks, when i activate the value the cylinders try to move but nothing, can round the bucket back with the tractor then chained in place to hold it from hanging down. the tractor has 3500 hrs on it value body worn out had to replace.on the cylinders is there a way to check them without having to take apart, by disconnect the arm end an pulling by hand if the end is broke will it pull out of the cylinder.

the angle of the bucket , the cylinders arm where 3/4 the way out. nothing came loose, the bucket that we have is a biting bucket with teeth and we where working in mud.

Sounds to me like the cylinder packing(s) are blown. You can confirm this by disconnecting the quick couplings at your actuator valve (for the bucket curl) and see it the bucket still flops. if it does then cylinder packings. If it doesn't then valve packings.

Back dragging that way WILL damage the loader. You probably blew out the cylinders. (one or both).

Disconnect/unbolt one of the cylinders and see if the other one will operate. Then disconnect the other one and see if it will work. You may have just popped the nut off the end of the shaft. In that case, you might be able to pull the shaft out of the cylinder.

You can also disconnect the hoses from the cyl and put plugs in them and see if the other one will operate.

G'day sorry to say but the bang you heard could be the piston on the end of the rod disintegrating i would pull both the cyl's off and strip down, alloy pistons have shattered before and sent bits of alloy through the hyd system. If you find one broken make sure that you change/clean any filters in the system good luck:)

Welcome to TBN Frontier:D

Where in MD are you?

Your problem definitely sounds like you broke the cylinders, possibly the nut stripped off the rod...

If you are close I would be glad to help you....
