Carhartt makes my favorite sweatshirts. I tend to pick one up at the end of winter for a very good price. I think $20 on sale at Atwoods. I like to the XXL so I can wear them over my lighter sweatshirts. I have never seen a sweatshirt as thick, or well built as the ones made by Carhartt.
I agree with Eddie but make sure you try them on. I have some Carhartt's that are to short in the body and too strong in the waist elastic so they "ride up". They also are the heaviest weight fabric. End of season sales at TSC are good for Carhartt but that won't help you now.

I'm having a hard time finding heavy weight cotton crew neck sweatshirts, seems like no one wants to carry them anymore.

All right this is where I am at the moment...one other heavy weight sweatshirt I have had a very longtime and was very pleased with was from a now closed business. Salem Sportswear was based in NH and the product was USA made too. They once did logo team wear for major league baseball, the NFL & the NHL.

Now a little online research shows the business was bought up by Fruit of Loom. Hmm wasn't that what where Thomas first said to look  but they still supposedly market the same thing. No doubt just similar and probably not US sourced anymore but we will see, (was no mention of that I can find). They are called Super Heavyweights, a 12oz med heavy sweatshirt which is about twice the thickness of the ones on the shelf at the wallyworld.

Besides being really strong and heavy, the one I still have is full cut for plenty of movement with good long sleeves and a length that goes well below your belt line. It does have a printed logo on it too.

Current price isn't bad. Though it is much easier to spend OP's money :D

There has been a lot good resources posted here.

Online I can get 3 for a little less than $50.00 which is good. A fairly decent assortment of colors are available too. So I just popped off an order on Amazon for two Ash grey ones to check them out.

Should be here later this week.

Well I got my 2 sweatshirts yesterday delivered UPS. They were shipped on 1 /12

First off WOW ARE THEY EVER CUT BIG  To say oversized barely describes it. :D

It's not entirely a bad thing though. No restriction of arm and shoulder movement and will easily layer atop other clothes. I ordered a size XL I have a 46" inch chest measurement and was expecting some shrinkage but once around thru a hot water wash and a clothes dryer was nothing noticeable

Weight of the fabric is pretty good. It is decently thick (12 oz fabric was described) and is fairly warm so that be worth a 4 out of possible 5

And though the ad text said 70/30 blend its 65/35 on the tag but that's no problem to me

Price was also ok with me at $15 a piece new with free shipping so that gets a 5 for the economics of cost.

As for fit the sleeve width is cut so amazingly wide from under the arm to down past the elbow it almost seems like a waste of material. Certainly gives it that relaxed look that was also describe. :D

Plus the waistband is bit loose on the elastic fit so overall here I'll only give out a 3.

I'm sure it shrink more over time anyhow.

So I think they could have a superior product if they took more care in the overall design. But anyhow I know I will just use them up and wear them out on the job but hopefully they last a while too.

I have one Gildan Ultra coming in the same size from the same place now. Only 9.3 oz fabric but for $4 less plus the free shipping.

Good enough for now :confused2:

Thanks for the update.

For undershirts this is what I prefer, called a Henley.

When and if I get too warm, I unbutton and fold under to let the body heat out and make it a v neck.

I know a lot of folks like sweatshirts, but I never cared for them at all. I don't like anything with a hoodie, and I don't care for anything that I have to pull over my head. I have always secretly wished that I could buy a zip up sweatshirt with a collar and no hoodie.

Camber Sportswear- Arctic Thermal 19-oz. Heavyweight Work Outerwear

#130, is a zipped no hoodie sweatshirt

i just got my hands on another set of 131's, my first "sweatshirt" has lasted 15 years

fyi these are close to 60 bucks
