1973 Case 646 Loader
Howdy. I'm scott and I run Case Tractors.

I have a 1958 JI Case model 310 Crawler Loader
a 1958 Case 155 Garden tractor that has a 10 hp Kohler in it.
and my most recent toy is a 1973 Case 646 Loader with an Onan CCKa engine in it..

I spend allot of my time on the case-colt-ingersoll forum (which it seams I can not post a link for.. But you can find it) I found myself here when I was researching DIY Cabs for tractors..

Glad to be here.. Plan to do a lot of reading..

To the forum. You have joined a great forum with very friendly and helpful people on it.

I have a sister that lives in Peoria so I get up that way a couple of times a year.

How much land do you have and what are you raising besides dust?

We live on 2 1/3 acres and we raise Trees mostly.. Our property is very wooded.. Plus my son runs a Sawmill on our property with a Solar Drying Kiln and he stores and sells lumber out of our barn's "hay Loft"..

Pictures and links about the saw mill are on my blog: monarch14 dot blogspot dot com (along with write up on my 100 year old metal lathe and my milling machine.. I run a hobby machine shop and do lots of things to my tractors. In addition to building sawmills..)

The Case 646 loader does a lot of work moving 1500 pound logs onto the sawmill and now that JR has built a 'slabbing' mill head we'll need the 646 with the pallet forks to get those thick slabs OFF the mill and into the Kiln for drying..

Many years ago my neighbor farmed with Case tractors, 1070 and a 1370, he referred to a Case as a "Case of bad judgement" I always thought that was pretty funny, then some years later Case bought up International Harvester, yikes!

My family ran Case Tractors our entire life. Had a 1931 Model CC an SC, A DC, 400, 800, and a 970 Also Case combines, balers, plows, etc.

I "inherited" the 1958 Case (TerraTrac) 310 Crawler when I needed to dig a Crawlspace for an addition to the house.. But the Lady of the Manor, does not like or allow those Steel tracks on the lawn.. At 58 years old, I am getting a little tired of hauling stuff around here. The Case 155 and small trailer are nice, but I really needed a loader...

So I started looking, Looked at Ford N's and the like. Then I stumbled upon the fact that Case took the garden tractors (444, 446, 448) and souped them up, used the design guys that built the Construction King backhoes and built a 16 - 20 HP loader tractor.

My 646 is 44 inches wide, about 9 feet from the bucket to the weightbox, it weighs close to 2,000 pounds with all of the wheel weights and ballast.. And it can pickup 1000 pound logs.. 'Course the loader arms on these machines come down RIGHT in front of the custom front axle, so the tractor has a lot more leverage..

I have a bucket and OEM pallet forks for it that keep those heavy logs up close to the tractor so I can lift more.. I also have a 40 inch tiller that can be mounted on the 3 point.

What amazes me about that line of tractors, is that they also put a BACKHOE on them..

Good to be here.

I went to your web site and was amazed at the detail you took time to write.

I really liked the sawmill you built. I never would have thought about using that trailer foundation. Brilliant.

That was really something how you got you 3 phase power for your shop.
