John Deere 2040 International Harvester 130
I just joined this forum to be a part of the equipment community and maybe get some advice and help from time to time.I have a John Deere 2040 40 horse tractor and am getting ready to break it apart for some clutch work.I was pushing snow about 2 weeks ago and it just quit pulling.I put it in gear and it tries to go but it acts like the clutch is slipping or not engaging all the way,I've had it apart 15 years ago to replace the pilot bearing and other than that it has worked fine.I don't understand why all of a sudden the clutch would go bad because you would think it would start slipping,I think it is something else stuck or something,I only got the 2 small access holes for greasing the clutch throw out bearing to see in there and it appears to be working alright for as little that I can see.I had just used it the day before for the same reason, pushing snow but it had got down real cold that night and maybe something had sweated and froze or something,I don't think the weather is going to lighten up this year.Ice storm 3 days ago which in turn meant no electricity or phone for about 17 hours.Don't know how bad you miss it till you don't have it(lol). For me it meant no water too because I have spring water which in turn meant putting a lantern in the pump house to keep my pump and pipes from freezing,I have a gas cooking stove so I was able to keep the house sorta warm but had to pack water which in turn I had no tractor to grade the ice off the driveway or drive right up to the pump house,it was rough.Anyway,if anybody has any advice as to why my clutch would all of a sudden stop grabbing would be a great help. Thanks .....Doug

G'day and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Enjoy the site.

You'll probably need to re-post your conundrum on a JD related forum in order to get more specific help.
