Mahindra 2638
Hello All,

We are in the process of buying a new tractor.

This will be my 1st compact, we currently use a 1938 ford 9N that has been passed down a few generations. It is currently having the motor rebuilt, and I dont think I want to make it "work hard" again, I would rather restore it and have it for generations to come.

What I think I want, is a Mahindra 2638. I am aware it is quite a step up from the ole 9N. We will be using this for plowing out 1/2 mile private road, driveway, and small lot (in the winter). In the Summer we will use it for a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and even a little bit more of that. Meaning, grading the road and drive way, plowing, discing, dragging, rototilling a large garden, general landscaping, brush hogging, and some light forklift applications as well.

From what i have found, the 2638 is the best bang for the buck given: horsepower, weight of the tractor (for lifting capacities), ergonomics, and as a bonus-no DPF.

My main concern is the name on the tractor, I do not know anybody who has a mahindra tractor. So I cannot get real life, personal thoughts on them.

I have 2 dealers both within an hour of my house, and the closer of the 2 has been selling mahindra products for (only?) four-ish years. They seem to have the best warranty, providing you can get the tractor to the dealer so you do not have to pay a service call (this may be the same on all brands-not sure).

I would really appreciate some input on this tractor as well as the brand.

Thanks in advance!

So, what part of Michigan? Welcome
Can’t offer up any advice on the Mahandra other than to say your classic Ford 9N, with a little TLC, will live
In perputury,

I have a 2538, the previous tractor to the 2638 and I LOVE it.

Machine works like a beast. No issues so far.

I use it to plow driveway, maintain trails, grapple big boulders and cleanup lots of trees etc.

Very happy with mine.

I have 2 mahindras ,A 2004 2810 with a little over 1000 hrs. And a 2017 2538 with 150 hrs. I have had great luck so far with both of these tractors and highly recomend them. the hydro on the 2538 is so easy to use especialy for loader work .

Tractors these days have alot of electrical and computerized components. I would evaluate the dealer much closer than days of old, because the likelihood of needing them is greater. Just like cars, it get tougher and tougher to diagnose issues. Tractors are no where near as complex as today's cars, but you get my meaning. Does the dealer sell other tractor brands? What types of tractors do they sell the most of (ie if they cater to large Ag, are they going to give you the time of day)? Do they have a nice well equipped service department? How about parts?

I didn't evaluate Mahindra because there isn't a dealer within 100 miles of my place. However, if there was I would definitely have given them a look. Best of luck in your quest!
