My name is Allen and I'm inheriting my grandfather's land in Forest, MS. It's roughly 260 acres and is part of a larger parcel my great, great grandfather purchased shortly after the Civil War. The land was originally cleared by two man crosscut saws and a team of mules for cotton production. Since then my great grandfather and grandfather operated chicken and cattle businesses. Currently, approximately 2/3 is 10-30 year old pine plantation and the remainder is split between hay production and a bull pen.
We have a lifetime of trucks and tractors: 1949 Ford F5 flatbed, 1970 GMC C-10, 2000 Chevy Silverado, a 40's Farmall M (mostly restored), a 60's Farmall Cub, a 60's Massey Ferguson 135 used for spraying, a 50's(?) International 240 used for road maintenance and our daily tractor is a '95 Massey Ferguson 261 with an Allied 595 FEL. Plus a shop full of hand tools acquired over the last 100+ years of farming.
I've learned a lot from my grandfather in my 30 years but I look forward to becoming part of the TBN community and learning from those who have "been there and done that".
