Got $12,000 dollars from a account, daughters junior college is payed for plus books, Kid's will probably not see their kin folks for years to come. FIL & MIL are getting old and frail. My last time to see and visit the old country of my Navy past.

My Dad served in the Infantry in WW II as a radio operator. He was in The Phillipines, New Guina and Guam. Dad liked country music and also played the guitar. One of his favorite songs was "My Phillipino Baby". I don't recall the original artist that recorded that song? Best of luck on your trip, I am sure it will bring back a lot of fond memories. Heck, I spent years in the PI... married there. Many friends and family there. Looking forward to spending time there. Yep, a few family members were stationed the during WW2.

We used to have neighbors (still friends) who were stationed in the Philippines when he was in the Air Force OSI. And when they moved into our neighborhood, they hosted a July 4 party each year featuring "Mongolian Barbecue" as they called it which they said they learned to make while they were in the Philippines. It was the first time I'd heard of such, but it was delicious. In more recent times, we have some Chinese Buffet restaurants that we like, which also have "Mongolian Barbecue" that is similar, but not nearly as good as our friends used to make.

Olongapo City was one of my favorite ports of call when I was in the Navy.
Two Navy bases were close by: Subic Bay and NAS Cubi Point.

"Po" City was truly a Navy town (if you were in the Navy, or any of the armed forces, you know exactly what I mean).

Yep, Roy... Did two back to back tours at NAS Cubi Point. Made Chief there. Also, very familiar with Alava and Bravo piers having made many port calls there.

None other than Ernest Tub, I remember hearing that song, as a kid, it would be fading in and out on the car radio when we'd go to the grocery on the weekend.:D:D

Might be wrong about that, found this.

I can feel the war stories coming - abridged versions of course. Only spent one night in the PI at Cubi. Crew rest, load a few cases of San Miguel beer(non export, the good stuff) and off to Diego Garcia BIOT in the IO. Heard a lot war stories about the PI during the four years I spent in San Diego.

Cowboy Copas, Filipino Baby Tabs, Chords, Lyrics

Thanks Milkman, I see that Cowboy Copas wrote the song in 1947. I did not know that either. I found it on Youtube last night by Ernest Tubb and boy, that brought back a lot of memories. Ken Sweet

Mark, what is your flight itinerary? Are you flying to Hawaii and then from there straight to Manila? How long is the flight? Good luck with your travels and visit with family. I know your wife must be thrilled to be able to go back. Enjoy and return safely.:)
