Just brought my new used Deere LX 178 home and cut grass with it yesterday. It has some issues after sitting up neglected for a few years, but seems pretty solid and well designed overall. It is a pleasure to operate; I was really surprised at the turning radius and ease of operation after years on single blade Snappers and Ariens mowers. It will eventually want a new hood, (cracked deteriorated plastic), and body, (rusty by the feet), a little paint and repair to the cutting deck, but all that for next winter, for now, she runs and cuts well.
Any maintenance tips for this model will be greatly appreciated, I figure typical car type service is wise, oil, plugs, tranny fluid, radiator flush and fresh antifreeze, lube where I can find nipples, if I am missing something specific, please let me know.
