I just wanted to say hi -- I am learning as I go with the tractor, so this forum looks like a great resource and comes highly recommended.

I'm in the process of building a 10-acre farm for my horses (I am a 3-day-eventer), the house is almost done and if I'm lucky, I get to move before....spring?? I AM lucky in that the property was established pasture with good fencing and I have wonderful neighbours including the God of Tractors who owns my new best friend: his hydraulic post driver on his 100 hp John Deere!

I made a deal with my best friend since she no longer has her farm so now her tractor is living with me! :cool2: It has been well maintained, but the person who stored it for her left everything outside, so I'm going to detail it all for her.

I can drive just about anything, and goodness knows I've spent plenty of time cursing at our outboards at work and have done a lot of my own vehicle work on gas and diesels, but these tractors are a new world to learn for me. I got my driving and bush-hogging lessons, this weekend we'll be setting up the augur so I can put in the new mailbox!

I look forward to getting to know some folks and learning as I go (I am Safety **** and even though I have not owned a tractor, I know the safety rules and parts and oh yeah, gravity). :D

G'day and welcome to TBN from Downunder...

And from a fellow 'horsie' bloke.

Enjoy the site, Mate!

Thank you all and g'day back at you, Wagtail -- I actually did live in Melbourne for a year when I was at uni and did some traveling, but never made it to Tassie. I wanted to discover a tiger!

Yeah, the moat between us and the mainland makes us 'so near and yet so far' for a casual visit.

We still hold a forlorn hope for a tiger (thylacine, for those playing at home) but the proof that they're gone (and it's a sad factor) is that none have been hit by a vehicle. Even the devils are down by 80% due to the strange mouth cancer aflicting them. BUT there's nothing wrong with the rest of the abundant wildife around here!

I've got a couple of TBs. What are you riding, Mate?

Thanks and hello back from Granville County!

Wagtail, I have a TB/QH who is my best buddy (we've had many crazy adventures) and my younger guy is an off-track TB, raced for three years and is now learning to be an awesome 3-day eventer!!! All your eventers (the human ones) seem to be moving here!

I think the devil cancer had just started when I was down there, very sad indeed, I love those little guys. Although my favourites were always the wombats (I did a field biology course w/ camp on marsupials and monotremes). Sigh, my fantasy dream of having a pet wombat...

The 'eventer migration' is probably due to the upcoming Olympics = more competition and training opportunities for those who want to make a bid for the Aussie Team. There's probably a bunch over in the European circuit too. (not that I'm saying anything that you don't already know, this is for those who are casually reading this)

The serious training for Rio is starting now.

Good stuff on your horses. I could go on & on about mine but that's true of any horseman... so I'll stop before I get started.

Heehee, horse people always find each other! But in the nature of the forum, I shall fix it...

Yay tractors!

I did have a BLAST yesterday grabbing an 8' telephone pole with my bitey bucket (hey, it's more fun to say than 4 in 1) and lifting it out of the way so I could get dirt and fill in the post hole.

Although why do they call it a 4 in 1 if it only does 3 things? It goes (1) up and down, (2) bucket pivots up and down, (3) it opens and bites things to my great entertainment. So what is the 4th thing? I really wish it had a "fling" function. I would have loved to have thrown that post after I picked it up. No, I do not have a good reason to do so. :D
