I am new to this forum. I have a lawn tractor JD 320X. This my second lawn tractor, my first one lasted 20 years and is still going as far as I know. Now I am looking for a compact/subcompact JD 1025 or 2025. The only thing I have heard is weakness in hydraulics on the 1000 series and a faulty u joint in the 2000 series. So does anyone have a recommendation between the two series. I know you are already thinking what kind of applications but basically will be bush hog, front end loader, maybe a backhoe and a tiller. I appreciate the help!

I'm going to move this thread over to our John Deere section to see if we can get you some advice.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

We'll need a wee bit more information on the type, terrain, grade & area of the land you'll be using the tractor on. Generally, unless you've got a lot of projects that require a backhoe, the typical advice is to save your money and hire one for the specific job. Let us know, and...

Enjoy the site.

Thanks Wagtail! The lot is more than an 1.5 acres with 43 trees. It is high on the rear of the lot and low enough to have an embankment on the road side. It has good drainage and standing water goes away. There will need to be a drainage channel to be cleared. The lot has been cleared but it is growing up again. I haven't bought the lot yet but it is next to my family and I plan to retire there. There is some more land on the other side of the lot with heavy underbrush and some tree. So I would guess some terracing (my sister already has a project for me to do with a retaining wall). The yard would have to be tilled and worked on from the rough. I know some of that could be or may have to be hired out but I would like to do a good amount of the work. I enjoy the work.
Thanks for your help!

For managing 1.5 acres, I would hang onto your Lawn Tractor if possible. I know that the tractor's you're looking at have MMM but the amount of area & number a trees make using a SCUT impracticable.

For what you describe your uses for a tractor are, I'd go for the 2025R. The reason is the size of the 3PH, the 1025R says it's CAT 1 (limited) whereas the 2025R is a CAT 1. The (limited) means that, although you 'can' fit a CAT 1 implement to it... it's a royal pain in the arse to accomplish, due to the height of the tractor off of the ground.
