Help, which would be more useful a 4410 with 4-in-1 FEL and Backhoe or a 4710 with 4-in-1 FEL only (no backhoe)

That all depends on what it is that you have to do. What is a list of what you are looking to do?

Planning on Landscaping around house - 1 acre - have JD 345 to cut yard. Blade driveway - 600 ft. Rotary cutting 7 acres. Minor cleaning of 9 acres, leaving large trees -and removing some small trees 2"-6" dia. Small garden and wildlife food plots. Install waterlines and wire for outbuilding.

Can you dig with a FEL?

For those jobs I'd say you'd be just fine with the 4410. The 4710 would let you do alot bigger jobs but for what you've said the 4410 will do all of that. The backhoe would be nice for doing your digging work. A FEL can dig but not very well. If you really want to dig get a toothbar. It's almost impossible to do without one.

I have a 4200 with a model 47 backhoe and cannot imagine being without a backhoe ever again. Ironically, I didn't want it when I bought the tractor used but the seller wouldn't break up the package so I reluctantly took it. I have to tell you I've used it more than anything else except possibly the FEL. Good luck with whatever you decide. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I have a 4310 with 430FEL, 4in1 bucket, and a 48 BH... can't imagine being without either. My biggest current project is digging out (burrying) lots of rocks. The FEL even with the 4in1 wouldn't be able to do it but the BH makes it easy and fun. I either dig a deep hole next to the rock (depends on size) and role it into the hole then cover it up, or... I dig it out and transport it to a dump sight with the 4in1 also easy and fun! One word of caution when transporting a big rock in the 4in1... always go in reverse... sometimes those rascals come loose and fall out (i.e. after hitting one of those hidden bumps), if that happens going forward and the rock is large enough I can only imagine the damage you could do to the tractor if you don't stop in time... OUCH!
The only improvement I can think of is having a toothbar installed!

If you can afford it go for the larger framed 4710. My 4700 replaced a 955. I cannot believe how much easier it is to do my yard work with the larger tractor.

I believe the largest bucket you can get on the 4410 430 loader is 60" vs the 73" width on the 4710 460 loader.

Sniezur,

Easier due to more power or more capacity with front end loader? What type task are easier?

I looked at going with larger framed tractor thinking I could justify the cost for the extra power and weight. But then I started looking at the attachments. When "right-sized" the cost difference adds up quickly. I wouldn't want to justify a 6' "something" when a 5 footer might do. If you're only going to need one or two primary attachments this might not be an issue. But if you are planning to buy all the tools it would be worth considering.

Easier and faster due to more engine HP, more FEL lift capacity and height, and heavier tractor. My 955 use to get thrown around by my Woods RM990 mower. In fact the 955 3-point would barely pick it up. The 4700 can pick the deck up and four people on it.

I maintain 40 acres with the 4700 and it's attachments. In fact I just cut a neighbor's 15 acre straw field with my Woods 90" rear mower because the people did not want it bailed. The growth was to the top of my brushgaurd but I was able to cut in "A" range full speed (cruise engaged) at 2600 RPM for 6 hours.

The lift capacity and height of the 460 loader is MUCH better for my needs. I can load a 15 yard dump truck with my tractor now.

Rear blading and raking is far improved over the 955's capability. The 955 would barely pull a 72" rear blade for grading my land. The 4700 with a 96" blade and TNT does twice the work in half the time.

The larger framed 4500-4700 tractors were better suited for my needs than the medium framed 4300-4400. Your own personal needs may vary though.
