First of all, thanks in advance. Yesterday I started drainning the oil out of the trainnie out of my 1975 ford 2000 tractor. With a shop manual in hand,I'm lost. After reading up on it,the book is stating that there should be 25.2 US quarts of oil in it. Yes,this tractor does have live PTO. Is this the true amount? It looks like I only got about 3.5-4.0 gallons out. Now a bigger problem.

Anyway,my problem is that when I drain the oil out,it came out milky. Some how, water got in. I do keep this tractor out of the weather and I think the water came from pressure washing it. I don't see any place that the trannie vents,so that is a second question.

Well with that, the manual doesn't show how to pull or even how to get to the trainnie suction filter. I know there is one inside from what I read, but I don't know were it is. Any help there?

Now with that problem there,I went for a drain on the rear end and drain that too. No water there, thank God. So,in the shop mannual,it states that ford gear oil specifcation is 80W. Is this true? Oh,I think it should hold somewere around 22 quarts if I remenber right.

Thanks again for any help in advance.

I can't help with everything but you probably got the water in from condensation. It depends how "milky" it was. Need to know more but it can only come from condensation or you washing it. The pressure washing might be an idea but someone else needs to answer.
You likely have a suction screener on the side of the transmission and the cover has three bolts on it. Not exactly sure but mine was like that. You will need to buy or make a gasket so be careful. Mine was a bear to get off and it would not be hard to damage stuff and create a really big problem.
The volume coming out or going in on fluids is just a guess and you sound OK.
You probably need to get a shop-type manual from a TSC or something like that before you go a lot further.

I don't know about the 2000 specifically, but as far as the amount of oil, some of these older units had seperate drains for the transmission and rear end. The 25 quarts could be the volume for both.

Well, after reading the manual a little more,I did find the info as to how to get to the filters. Anyway, got as far as unbolts the 12 bolts andthat sucker is not moving. I even put the hammer with a block of wood, still no go.

Anyway,I did remove the side plate and I did see the filter. I am sure its the suction one. What I found is that the tube at the bottom were it bends is cracked big time. The filter is not even in place were it slips to the rubber garment that slips on the tube. I will have to order a new tube, work on getting the top off too!

The old oil was big time mixed with water. Mike shake,it was so bad.

There are two different drains. One for the trannie/hyd system and there other for the rear axle.

So,my plans are to flush out the trannie with diesel, then denature alcohol then blow air in to dry.

The shop manual does call for 25.2 qts for the trainnie/hyd system. Now when I drain the rear end, about 3 gallons of oil came out of that. For some reason, the shop manual is not telling me how much. Maybe I'm over looking it.

I will check back later. Got to go pick up some 80W oil for the rear axle and gaskets for the top and side plate.

Thanks again.
