Just bought pretty much the same mower. Had a front wheel drive with variable speed (truly) Yardman. Liked it much better, but the wife loaned to a kid and he hit a stump and bent the crank. I think I am going to take the motor off the new Troy built and put it on the old Yardman carcass, reasons are.
!. The frontwheel drive makes it difficult to mow around trees and such, keep having to fight it.
2. The variable speed on the Troy built is really not is it sort of herky jerky variable speed. It runs away then waits till you catch up the jerks away again.. Much more tiring to use.
3. The deck plugs up a lot easier than the old Yardman when using in Chute mode.
I am in no way a Troy built or MTD basher. Have an old Troy built Horse tiller and Troy built Generator and no complaints on either of those items. I just feel that my old Yardman worked better and was a lot less tiring to use. It has a little lever to pull with one hand with the Troy built you actually have to push it some even though it is self propelled.
