I'm the not so happy owner of an Erskine Rear Pull Snow Blower. Last year I had a problem with the brackets for the skid shoes pushing through the body of the blower. Yes, they were only welded to sheet metal. I'm also constantly having problems with shear bolts breaking. The worst part is that I don't even get that much snow. The latest problem is with the impeller. The key that holds the impeller to the shaft must have sheared or fallen out some how. I can' slide the impeller forward enough to slip a new key in, so I think I need to remove the auger. Has anyone ever done this? I'm wondering how complicated it is....pulling the whole auger out. I would think that the process is similar on any type of snow blower, but I don't want to tackle the job and end up having problems with the machine down the line.

Thanks

I think you should call Erskine and look to them for advice.

I had shear bolts break too often on my 60" Agrotrend rear snowblower but when I shortened the toplink on my 3 PT hitch it angled the blower upwards so it didn't dig in as much. I haven't had any issues since.

good luck

Hi - Not knowing much about the rear-Pull Snow Blower, all I can offer is my experience with the Erskine frontmount unit. To remove the auger, one simply breaks the drive chain at the repair link, remove 4 bolts (2 on each side of the auger housing) that holds the bearings in place and slide the unit forward taking the bearings and all with it. It's a very simply process. I am assuming the rear-pull units disassemble in a similar fashion.

My Erskine frontmount snow blower is approx. 12 to 13 years old and this year is the first time I sheared any shear pins. But, that was my fault. I didn't realize the chain was alot of slack in it and it jumped off the drive spocket, binding itself tight to the auger. Once I replaced the shear pins, put the the chain back on and set the chain tension properly, it hasn't given me any problems. Perhaps the chain tension needs attention on your unit.

Good luck. Roger
