Last week I ran a load of scrapmetal into the scrapyard. While I was unloading my truck I look over and there's a complete 2 bottom plow sitting there in a pile of stuff. I check it out and it's totally complete. My load of scrap was worth $47 and after a bit of haggling the yard owner agreed to trade me the plow for the scrap. All was good until the yard attendant loaded onto my truck.... He dropped it from about 5 feet up and it broke one of the points off the plow. It's a cast point so there's not much chance of successfully welding it.. I'm hoping someone can ID the plow or maybe point me in a direction where I can find a new point for it. It measures 14" and kinda looks like a Ferguson to me, but I'm not sure. Anyway, here's a pic:

Hi

I had a similar problem with a scotch bottom plow point. I took it into my welding class and managed (with the help of the instructor) to weld it back together. Mine was cast steel and I used an Arc Welder with very expensive welding rod (MG 600). It is not real pretty but seems quite solid. I will be testing in the field and will advise further.

It looks like a Ferguson, I have one like it. You will find an index of manuals on this site Index of Manuals (scroll down to the plow section).
These guys have parts. :New Holland : Dealer Web Site
If you e-mail them the numbers off of you moldboard and shares they may be able to help you. I hear the parts can be expensive. Good luck

Ferguson.... Deerborn and Ferguson plows are VERY simular. The easiest way I know of to spot the difference is the coulters. Those are Ferguson coulters. Looks like the makings of a good plow.

Read the reply I gave you. My plow looks the same as yours, Ferguson 2X14 AO plow. I provided you links to a parts manual and a link to a dealer that has parts. IF YOU GIVE THEM THE NUMBERS OFF OF YOUR MOLDBOARD AND SHARES THEY MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU. Sorry didn' t mean to yell, but I thought maybe you didn't "hear" my first post.:D:D

Southtowns,

You don't need to worry about finding parts for that plow, just P.M. me your address and let me know a good time to pick it up, I'll take care of the rest...You know, to save you the aggravation of having to worry about it:cool:

Just kidding- that's a going to be a fine plow, great find!

You can check here for parts:

ROCK SHARES - Agri Supply

On most if you click "more info" it provides a drawing with all of the dimensions, bolt placements, etc so you can get the right one. They have also been very helpful and knowledgeable when I've called, so that might be worth a shot.

Good luck!

I had the tip break off the share on my old plow a few years ago. I tried welding it back on but it broke off again and I lost it somewhere in the garden. I took off the old one and took it to tractor supply and found one that was similar, welded it to the steel frame and have used it for several years now.

I couldn't find any identification on the plow and I figured that by the time I ware the tip out, I'll be too old to hook the darn thing up anyway.

yes, the cast iron is diffucult but do not be afraid to try, preheat both pieces to nice orange glow, then weld with a mig welder, reapply heat so that everything including weld is same color, then allow to cool slowly at air temp. or get the rods for cast iron for a arc welder. you will still have to preheat, hope this helps, (20+ years welding/fabricating) forget about using a coat hanger/rosebud the metal is not what it used to be
