I let the grass go a week and it went crazy with all the rain we have had. I started to mow last night and about 100' down my first pass the bagger turbine stopped while the PTO shaft continued to spin. I could hear a pretty good squeeling noise so I shut everything down and headed for the garage.
I took the long bent plate off to have a look and found that the shoulder bolt holding the shaft onto the PTO gearbox shaft was sheared off. Not an easy bolt to find at 5:30 PM hear in CT. I found a Case dealer that would stay open late and try to match it, no luck matching it but he did order me up a bunch, to get by I was able to put a hardened hex bolt in, it appeared to work just fine.
HOWEVER, I did notice that there was about a teaspoon of gearbox oil underneath the PTO gearbox. No obvious leaks, maybe it was sneaking around the shaft seal. I could see plainly how to drain the gearbox but no sign of a filler or any way to check the oil. Can anyone help me with that? How do you chekc/change the gearbox oil on this thing? Thanks for any help.
