First of all, I have used this forum several times to find useful info about my tractors and am very appreciative of the knowledge here. However, this is my first post. I have a yanmar 2010d (4wd) that i use to do light work in and around a couple of rental properties. I was bush-hogging an overgrown 2 acre plot and near the end of the job, I hit a couple of sweetgum saplings that caused the engine to bog down a bit, and then both the brush cutter and the forward drive became inoperable. The engine runs fine, but no drive forward or reverse and only a little of the engine's power is being transferred to the rear pto. The bush-hog barely spins at all. THe transmission is a shuttle shift. Did i burn up my clutch?

As long as there was no metallic crack or grinding sound the clutch is where I would start. Since neither the drive nor the pto operate but you still get a little spin at the pto that also points to the clutch. Does your machine have a clutch pedal you use to engage and disenage the pto?

It only has the one clutch pedal that operates both the transmission and the PTO. I don't think it's a two stage clutch and I also don't have a separate pedal for the PTO. I didn't hear a loud crack, grinding or anything like that. It really went from pulling and cutting to not pulling and not cutting in a matter of a second or two. By the way, I said earlier that it was a shuttle shift, but I think the correct term is powershift, if that makes any difference at all.

Look for the parts diagrams for your machine. Yanmar's website or Messicks.com would be a good place to start. If as I think your shuttle transmission is driven through a conventional clutch at the flywheel then that is likely the clutch that has failed. Some machines have an inspection/adjustment port on the bellhousing. That might give you some confirmation before you split it.
