Hi I have a 2002 Case IH DX 29. While running it this evening it shut off and wouldn't start. I have had other starting issues in the past with some of the safety switches. I thought I had is straightened out but tonight it stopped or shut off just like i turned off the key. I did find that instead of a fuse there is like a breaker of sort in the 3rd or 4th slot from the top on the right side of the fire wall. For what ever reason it is tripping. I can pinch it back together and it will start but if I let go it quits??? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

That circuit breaker is opening because you have something pulling too much current. When that happened on my tractor, it was the fuel cutoff solenoid. The solenoid is at the rear of the injector pump and has a single wire going to it with a spade connector. Disconnect the solenoid and then reset the breaker. Turn the key on and see if it opens again by itself. Your tractor won't start if your solenoid is unplugged, but if the CB stays set, then plug the solenoid back in and see if it trips. If it does, then the solenoid is pulling too much current. My solenoid got very warm on my tractor and when I tested it on the bench, it burned up since I didn't have any fuse or CB in line. I don't know if that's your problem, but it might be.

Another problem might be a faulty glowplug timer and/or glowplug relay. If you can identify exactly what fuse/CB number is opening, then you can investigate each thing on that circuit individually. I don't have the circuit diagrams for your tractor, but surely somebody who does will see your post if you tell us exactly which fuse/CB position is opening. My owner's manual shows a chart/table of fuses and what they power. Surely your owner's manual has the same thing for your tractor.

It is the #4 slot which should be a 15 amp fuse. I replaced the breaker with a fuse disconected the loader so I can access the area better. What baffles me is the #4 slot is for the rear light and cruise control. The #1 slot is for the fuel shut off solenoid so i dont know why this happens but the solenoid does get hot to the touch??? Any other Ideas???

The solenoid normally gets hot, so it's probably not the source. I don't have your tractor's schematic, so I really hate to be guessing. When you replaced the CB with the fuse, did the problem go away?

I am not sure, I havent run it long enough to find out??? It only quits after running for a while. When it first quit last week I had been running it for about 40 min. The other night when it quit it had only been running about 10 to 15 min. There is no rhyme or reason to when it stops??

On my TC45D, fuse #4 is a 7.5 amp fuse that supplies relay coil power for the lights, but fuse #7 is the 15 amp fuse that actually supplies the power to the lights through the relay's contacts. It sounds like on your tractor the complete power is through fuse #4. I'm thinking you might have one of those strange situations with a brake switch or pto switch that is malfunctioning and causing the operator presence system to shut off the engine. The strangest part is that you only experience problems when the tractor is fully warm/hot. I think I'd start at the fuel cutoff solenoid and work my way backwards until I found out the problem circuit. The problem is that if you take too long, the tractor will cool and the problem will go away. Frustrating!

Yes this is frustrating me to no end. I would almost like to find a way to bypass all the relay and saftey switches. My farmall 656 only has one fuse for the entire system and the only saftey switch is on the clutch????

On my TC 29 I noticed almost all connections throughout the unit were corroding. I went through as many connections as I could ( relays, diodes, fuses, etc) and cleaned ones that could be cleaned, replaced all fuses ( some you could tell were running hot) cleaned relays, diodes ( replaced one diode a it also showed signs of running hot) and used dielectric grease on all connections. You may have had a bad breaker, and also it may be wise to remove housing below steering wheel and check wires for rubbing, etc.
When you have housing off; remove starter switch connection and clean those also and use dielectric grease.
