Sorry about the top - Help getting learning J-deeder 216 I was very sleepy typing this up.

I pick this up few days ago. I was look at few other brands. When seen this 1 it look to me like tractor hot rod so I bought it. Mind you I no nothing about it or road 1 before. I was even chicken to even drive it off the truck. I was able to get it off the truck. I cost it down off the ramps. I start it up, I put it gear it took off and hit the gate took the door down funny. The brakes don't seem to stop that good. I was able to get it up in the yard and clean it up some. I have about 1.5 acres getting old using a push mower.

My wife was not to happy me buying a use tractor and then have to work on it.

I need a good under standing please how to use the this thing the right way, - what's the proper way to start this, put it in gear drive off and use the deck / go grass cutting.

I paid $500.00 for it was this a good deal
Model 0216K-155803N
Deck I think is 47" HO47K-457816M
The blades turn freely on the deck.

It starts right up, All 4 tires look new, Stater looks almost new, spark plug and wire looks new.
The steering had about 5.5" of play in it was able to turn the slotted screw on the gear box - no play now.
The brake don't lock the real wheels
It looks like no safety switches on it. "O" where do I find them.
The choke is where the light switch is.
amp gauge no wires to it may don't work.
No lights front or back.

There's a lot painted parts through out this 216. From the pictures is there any missing parts. The clutch pedal don't look like the brake pedal.

Looks like a decent mower. If it runs, I'd say for $500 you're still ahead of the game. Get some sleep and try again tomorrow;) When you do, go slow and try to avoid objects. Then come back and try another post seeking answers to one problem at a time. Start with the ammeter. And be sure to check your oil and change it if dirty.

Your clutch pedal is also your brake pedal. Out to go, all the way down to stop.

The right side vertical lever is the speed control (called the variator) and adjusts the speed within each gear range. Slowest is all the way back to the operator.

The brake is the yellow circular attachment that shows in the underneath pic on the left side (right in the pic) of the red-painted transmission.

Start the tractor with the transmission in neutral. Then put the clutch all the way down and shift into a gear with the variator lever slow position (back). Let the clutch out and you should start moving slowly. To go faster in that gear, move the variator lever forward.

Did you look at the pictures on tractordata? Your side cowlings are missing, the seat is different and the paint scheme is creative. I haven't looked or used one of these in a long time but your shift lever under the front of the seat should be R N 1 2 3 4. The small lever that slides up and down on the front right lower console should be the pedal lock. The long lever raises and lowers the mower deck, the lever on the right side of the console is the variator lever as beenthere describes. I should add that beenthere knows a lot more about these older Deere's than I do.

That is the brake pedal (right side shown in last pics) and it is linked to the brake drum and brake band on the left side of transmission. (I was wrong in previous post that this model uses the left side pedal also for braking).

The left side pedal is the one that tightens the drive belt. Push all the way down to shift the tranny.

You can go to jdparts.com (free registration) and look up the model 216. There will be a complete parts breakdown for the models by serial number break points. You can tell what parts you have, what may be missing, and what the previous owner may have added that wasn't original.

Will do thanks, I was told that the brake linkage on my 216 was wrong - and that it go's on the lift side.
And another type go's on the right. So bought these off of ebay.

My lift side had no linkage on it. So I'm trying to find the right parts.

Look at the "lift stop" in jdparts.com and you will see how that goes together. Let us know if you find that schematic.
