I'm hoping the masses are able to help me identify a 4ft wide rototiller I just picked up.
I would like to know how to properly set up the slip clutch. I think it may also need a input shaft seal, also a few tines.

No idea on the tiller manufacturer, but setting the slip clutch is easy enough. Loosen each nut (equally) a small amount until the plates slip. Retighten (equally) until it's set to not stall out the tractor under load.
Slip clutches should be periodically slipped and readjusted, particularly if stored outside or in humid conditions.

I did something similar to this.. I had to disassemble the clutch to build a new PTO shaft / clutch drive plate.. So I tightened each nut until the spring was just under pressure (could not turn by hand) then turned each one in by equal number of nut flats.. I will give it a try and see if I need to adjust.

The pto shaft looks to be at a pretty steep angle. It would help the life of the u-joints if you were to tip the front of the tiller forward several inches.

Thank you for the observation. This picture was with the tiller at the fully raised position.. That being said, the position was adjusted when i rebuilt the PTO shaft and moved the tiller farther out from the tractor.. Currently with the tiller sitting on the ground, the PTO shaft is almost level, so then its engaged in the ground the tiller input is about 8" below, and when raised about 12" high.. Yes, i tilted the input on the till to be more level when in the low position.

So over the past couple of days i have reached out to a few different people to try and help identify this tiller. I connected with someone from Guy Machinery who has sold Howard machines since 1975, and he's sure its NOT one of those.

His observed that the machine is a right had driven tiller. Howard machines have always been left hand driven.

Doing more research I have found right hand driven machines to be unusual in general. I have not had any luck finding any.. Looking at the driven end of the machine, the rotor turns clockwise.

I also reached out to Hay Tools (Tillmaxx blades). The person there thinks the shape and color match that of a old Maletti tiller..
So following that line, i was looking for information on Maletti, i haven't found any of there machines to be right hand driven..

Using Tillmax's master list of tiller blades, i was able to match the blades on the machine which match the following brands/ models:
  • Agrator D-UR
  • Agric B
  • Befco No.5
  • Douglas HD 50-60-72-84
  • Howard E-HR-HX 15-20-30-HB-ST180
  • JD 770
  • Kuhn EL (50 Old) 70-80-100
  • Reddick
  • Rome MRT30-MRT45

The blade bolt holes are 1/2" (12.7mm) dia x 2.25" (57mm) spacing. It currently has C style blades.

I'm hoping someone may be able to comment if any of the above machines are right had driven.. I have only been able to find pictures of a few of them.

So i have been able to finally identify this rotary tiller.
This unit is a Frank Bonser & Co. - Agrotiller - MU50. Manufactured in the mid to late 50's in Britain. Here are a couple of screenshots of brochures i found. The upper unit in the first picture.

I think I may have been able to find an original operator/parts manuals for it out of a seller in the UK.
