good point, I am assuming the previous owner reasoning was further away the weigh is from the hinge heavier it is although in this case it is not applicable since the 3 point only act as a hinge once the disk is off the ground, or it is simply where there was room. The way he welded it in place cancel the adjust the rear disk which is not also not ideal ...Entirely possible, even likely. However, supplemental weight would be more effective located over the front row of pans which are notched for cutting/penetration, rather than the rear row of pans, which are smooth, therefore tend to roll rather than displace soil.
