Hi folks,

Any idea who manufactured this? Guessing it 30 - 50 years old.

I am lost as how to hook up to the tractor and operate. Since there are no wheels to raise or lower for transport, are all three points of the hitch connected for raising and lowering during transport and turning?

What is the reason for the saw tooth bar with the white rope?(raise and lowering)

Thanks for your help ahead of time,

The saw tooth bar is for adjusting the pitch of the gangs. In general they were to remain on the farm but could be pulled down the county road with zero pitch leaving shallow cut marks. Keep in mind that in the days of those, machinery normally wasn't (roaded) several miles.

It's been a long time (like 1940s) since I saw one of those but if I recall the power of the tractor was used to change position of the bar and gang angle. And maybe reversing the tractor is what did the maneuver of changing gang angle in one direction. When the angle desired was obtained the rope was released.

Don't know the manufacturer but that disk is probably close to 60 or 70 years old.

International brand not Case. Probably mid 50s to early 70s. Good disk. Pulls from the bottom drawbar

The square head hardware make me think pre-50's.

My grandfather's equipment from the 30's & 40's had square head hardware and rope-pull adjustments like that.

My dad's 60's and 70's vintage equipment has all hex heads and no ropes to pull.

Yep, I think Milkman is right, it is pre-50s-think 8n tractor days. And yes you backed up the tractor to put as much "set" in the disc as you wanted. The notches would catch at each point and linkage between the front gangs and the back made them both move equal amounts. You pulled up on the rop as you were easing back to raise the holding pin, then when you pulled forward all the set came out till it is again like in the photo. That is how you transported it from field to field. It generally stayed on your farm. Most farms back in the 40s were small 40 acres or so and all in one location so the didnt need wheels to transport down the road. They were generally farmed with mules till the venerable 8N Ford came along and things started to change. The n By the late 50s-60s the HP was big enough that equipment was much wider and heavier and needed wheels to transport from field to field as acreage increased and the need for more HP and larger tillage equipment grew and continues to grow although I think they have about reached the practical limit on size and HP and $$$$$ for row crop work.

International brand is what I think also. Ken Sweet

I think it would be more accurately called a tandem disc, not a discer. Thess are more what a discer is, at least here abouts.

Used one of these for years. International 9 foot. Pull the rope and drive ahead to V for cutting. Pull the rope, back up to straighten it for transport. Mine give out a few years ago but still have it in stock.

I've got one of these and used to use it (5 years ago) with my 1948 Farmall Cub to harrow the vegetable garden after plowing it. I also used it to "refresh" my gravel driveway. It works great. You back up to set the angle of the disks. Pull the rope to lift the catch pin. You let it drop when you have the angle you want as you ease forward.
Just got a 2001 NH TC30 and plan to use the harrow this summer along with the plow. The clutch went in in the Cub, and needs a battery - though I can start it with a crank I made for it. I like the cub and used to plow snow with it as well.
