I just bought a 1985 16 x 7 flatbed trailer for $450. It looks a little rough (needs new fenders) but structurally sound and the ramps are in good shape.

So far so good. Since I live in Wyoming and I bought the trailer in South Dakota, I need to have a VIN inspection from the local constabulary prior to registration. Problem, the tag with the VIN is missing and all of the other decals/identifying marks are worn off and illegible.:(

So my thinking was, I could just get the manufacturer name off the title, look them up and assuming they are still in business, get some help here. So I look at the title and it says the manufacturer is ABRK:confused:.

Question, does anyone know what manufacturer that would stand for? Or any other ideas how to identify this trailer?

I would just lose the title and register it as a home made trailer. In Indiana the DMV will issue a Vin which you have to place on the trailer and then have it inspected and the proper paperwork filled out. A new title will then be issued.

If that works in WY, then that's good. Some states make you show purchase receipts for the trailer parts. Otherwise what you describe would be an easy way to register a stolen trailer, unless newer trailers have hidden VINs like cars and trucks.

I checked the WYDOT website and looks like there is a process for missing numbers etc. but the form wasn't real clear, so I sent them an email asking for guidance.

Yea, I guess Indiana is behind the times on lots of things. All you would need in that case is a bill of sale from the guy you got it off of showing that you purchased it for X $$$$..

Does Indiana title trailers? I know Ohio does. My friend bought a little 14' sailboat on a trailer that was last registered in OH and is having a bad time getting a reg and title for the trailer in NY because DMV justs look up in a book and sees that OH trailers after a certain year must be sold with a title.

Yes, Indiana has titles for trailers. We have no inspections though like some states do. I know in Ohio for example they have titles and inspections if over 3,000#.

The law is different everywhere. Some states like Oklahoma I believe do not even have plates for trailers. All that needs a plate is the tow vehicle.
