A girl I know has a lawn ornament she wants to sell. She took some pictures and showed me last night but the camera wasn't all that good.

It appears to be a walk behind with a sickle bar mower. It has huge steel wheels with chains and gears. One of the pictures show a tag that maybe was on the engine. It said Sears and Roebuck. She thinks its from the late 20s or early 30s. She got it from a neighbor and it has been sitting in there yard and she wants to sell it to get rid of it. I wasn't able to get any of the pictures off her to post.

Any one have an idea of what it could be? A Sears Handyman walk behind by chance? Are these of an value besides maybe a personal interest. I said I would get back to her. She said they would deliver.

Hiya Cef,

That is a one cool-looking old piece of Iron. Looks like it's in good enough shape to get going again. Unfortunately, I don't really know what it is. I recommend you try another site that might yield better results - Garden Tractors / Mowers / Scooters - SmokStak - this tractorbynet forum is great, but smokstak caters more to the much older equipment like your mower.

Can you imagine trying to knock down 5 acres of hay with that contraption? They don't make equipment like that anymore, but then again, they don't make the men to run equipment like that anymore either!

On another site that I posted other pictures someone picked up a name on one of the cast drive wheels. It was Shaw MFG. He added this reference.

I bought it. It will be coming my way soon. The people that have it said they would deliver. Going to see if it has a chance to run or just a conversation piece.

Very interesting piece. Keep us posted as you try to get it going. Ken Sweet

It appears to be in better shape then I had hoped. The engine appears to be the big factor. No compression but it does turn free. carb appears in good shape and moves freely. I need to pull the head and see if there is a stuck valve or rings.

The sickle knife section is stuck and I have pulled the knife caps to free it. I need to get the last inside cap bolts loose and I should be able to get the knife sliding again. Other then that all else seems in working order which suprises me. There are three levers back at the handlebar. One enagages the drive. One engages the PTO to run the sickle. And one puts it in reverse.

There is a tag on it still. It is a Shaw T25 Du-All. Researching that a bit. Like to find some pictures of it in orginal color. Its sitting in my front yard right now and get a lot of looks as traffic goes by.
