I have an older Case 1190 with a front loader. Today the rear lift ( draft arms? ) quit working. Fluid okay. Was working before lunch not after. Front end loader still works. Can't raise bush hog.

Clutch appears to work fine as I can shift gears and go forward and reverse no problem. Can't engage pro now with clutch engaged? Can engage pro from an engine stop so it is turning but still no lift.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If I remember correctly there is a seperate hand cluth next to the seat is that lowered into position? It has been a long time since I was on my friends 1190. Is the hyd resivor full? Is the draft lever pulled up or set properly.

I hope this helps, just a few quick thoughts.

A little more information today. It's a 1290 not 1190 (typo, sorry). I did check the hydraulic fluid level and it is full. Today when I held the clutch in, I was able to engage the pto with no gear grinding, but still no lift.

I did see the draft switch on the rear but it doesn't move, or at least it wouldn't move with pliers. . . .

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming!

Hi dlyle, You say the loader still lifts and this suggests the pump is still working ok. This also means the PTO clutch is engaged allowing drive through for the pump etc.
The enagement of the PTO to me is a different issue? This is depending on the model controlled by the lever on the left hand side as mentioned by Lawnman or by the second stage on the main clutch. If it is the later, then adjustment is needed internally on the clutch which can be done from the bottom of the clutch housing. If it has the hand clutch on the left hand side, then it will most likely be an external adjustment.
For the three point linkage, there may be a change over or slector valve on the left hand side of the tractor near where the PTO clutch handle is, you need to check that this is in the linkage position or only the loader will work. It needs to be moved from one to the other when using the loader or the linkage. I would check this first.
After that it will become a little involved in the hyd, but still easy enough.

Thanks Trac-Tech the 1290 has a foot clutch and after re-reading the manual again it appears it might have a selector valve on the right side back of the tractor near the 3 point lift lever.

I haven't had a chance to look for this selector yet (the tractor is 3 hrs away) but I certainly think you are on to something. It is possible that the selector got moved accidently.

Also the manual didn't say the selector was on all but just on some. If this is the case it may be a clutch issue that you mentioned.

Thanks.

Hi dlyle
The selector you speak about is the draft selector and it really should be in the middle position. To move the selector, you need to hold the hyd lift lever hard back in the select position against the spring and then move the selector you are speaking about. So do check this as I believe that there is draft-position-external positions as long as I can remember correctly.
The selector I was on about may or may not be fitted and is on the left hand side back behind your left heel when sitting on the seat.
Check it out and see how you go. All the best.
Cheers

Looked at the tractor this weekend and no secondary selector for switching between front and rear hydraulics. The two stage clutch still operates the pto and shifting of gears fine. Front end loader hydraulics still work fine. It has a lever for remotes in the back and when moved, the pressure builds up in those lines also. I took the lift lever apart to see if maybe something had come loose there, but everything looked fine and was attached. I didn't pop the top off the distribution box, but guessing it may be a stuck valve? Also as I am running out of ideas I tried calling around and no one seems to want to work on the 1983 Case/David Brown. . . bummer. . .

Well, it looks like I had a stuck valve. Found an older gentleman who loves to work on these rigs and he went right to the valve, pulled it, and repaired it. Everything works now, yeah!

Thanks for all the input!
