HELP...JD Parts are Freakin' Pricey.

Sometimes they are for sure. The local dealer wanted about $300 for a new starter for my 4120, while I located an aftermarket one for $80. At least these are common tractors so there are plenty of good aftermarket suppliers for the more popular parts (like starters). When an OEM part fails prematurely, the last thing I want is an expensive OEM replacement.

OK...At least now, I can confidently go get raped knowing it would be no better elsewhere. With shipping, I am nearly back to retail locally. Might as well see if I can get them to meet the price and get it by the weekend.

Thanks Much for the input.

Let's see. The dealer is still in business. The company is still
In business and not merged and forgotten. The dealer can still obtain the parts. The parts will show up in 1-2 days. The parts quality is good. Try finding and ordering parts from the GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda , Cat, frieghiner, Mack, PeterBuilt etc of that model year. I would be thanking my Deere dealer and Mother Deere for providing that service at any price let alone just a few hundred bucks.

I actually prefer using a dealer...but not when there is a huge up-charge. I called dealers down in the central valley, and they all were in the same range...and about 60 dollars less than the local dealer. Cheaper then getting it shipped BEFORE shipping charges. So, I bought the part from the dealer that had it in stock AND was "reasonably" priced.
