I am looking at a 1970 580ck backhoe, runs drive great, very light smoke when running, couple small cylinder leaks, injection pump leaks at throttle shaft, cosmetic issues, 188 diesel, shuttle shift and has clam shell bucket and a set of forks... What's it worth?

my buddy picked up a 1990s 2 wheel drive 580ck for under $7000.
i would think an early 1970s model would be considerably less...
the clamshell bucket would be nice and most of the 580s FELs can out lift most 90 hp utility tractors.
We had a 1960s Case 650 crawler with clamshell and backhoe and that thing always smoked a fair bit, but it would always start and do a full days work.
If you can get it for a bargain- and aren't afraid of taking a gamble.?...
But- if you get it home and it immediately breaks -are willing or able to fix it?

The tractor really doesn't have enough power to use a 4-n-1 bucket, and it is 45 years old. If you archon forbade with repairs and have the budget for them, it may be worth 3-4 thousand dollars.

I sold my 580B (think it was a 1973) for $5000. It looked to be in nicer shape than the one you are looking at with about 50 hours on a rebuilt differential and stick transmission. I think I would be hard pressed to even pay $3000. for that one.
