I just parked my GC1705 and it is overheating... boiling water in the overflow tank. I also see the filter in front of the radiator is jammed up, and cleared it. What should I do? Let it sit, or start it up after clearing the screen?

Let it cool

If I notice the temp gauge climbing on any of my equipment, I stop working it and keep the RPMs pretty high. Not WOT, but well above idle. The engine turns the fan and the water pump. Without circulating coolant, the great has nowhere to go. It the temp didn't start going down, I'd shut it down, but that's never happened. Once it goes down to where i want it, then I shut down and clean the radiator.

Next time, keep a closer eye on the temp gauge and don't wait until it's overheating. In some conditions, you may need to clean the radiator quite often.

My yard is 2 ½ acres. When the grass is dry, I have to stop and use my leaf blower to clear the radiator out when I am only half way through my yard. This little motor makes a lot of heat. I just watch my gauge.

Thanks. This being my first tractor, I wasn't in-sync with the fact that the airflow could have been obstructed to the degree it was... the screen in front of the radiator had a layer of 'felt' on it. Now I'm clear I'll have to keep an eye on the temp gauge regularly and make sure the radiator screen is cleaned regularly when it is dry. After cooling off for an hour and replenishing about a qt of antifreeze/water in the radiator and another 3 cups in the tank, everything seemed to checkout fine - at least for now.

It has a cast iron head on the cast iron block. They are pretty tough engines. You should be OK.
