Hey folks,

I'm looking at two tractors:

Massey Ferguson 175
1800 hrs. No Multi-power. Selling through a dealer about 45 min away. Canopy. That's about all I know. $7900

Ford 5600
5900 hrs. One owner who lives 3 doors down from me. Retired dairy farmer. Always stored inside. No cab/canopy. Asking $10,000 but can probably talk him down some.

I'm partial to Massey Ferguson and have little to no experience with Ford tractors but i've read good things about the 5600 and there are fewer unknowns with this specific tractor. But with the Massey at 1800 hours(if its correct) could mean it's practically a new tractor unless the previous owner beat the **** out of it and then gave it a nice paint job.

Your thoughts?

I think a 175 ( if it is a diesel) has a Perkins 236 and that is usually a good engine. No Multi Power is also a plus. We have a few years newer Massey that would share a lot of parts with a 175 and the parts availability is extremely good. One thing to have a look at though is wet brakes ( five notches) or dry brakes. I think the wet brakes are better but am not sure if they were an option in the 100 series. Also a feel of the clutch and the general looseness of the steering would be in order.
I know nothing about the Fords except they are decent but seem a little lighter built than Massey.
