I'm trying to decide between these two. Here's the background:
I have a farm about 35 miles from where I live, so have plenty of big tractors. Been around big tractors all my life. Smallest thing I currently own is a CaseIH 5240 hi clearance. But I live on 7 acres of horse pasture and need a small tractor to mow the pasture, work up my garden, move dirt, keep my creek cleaned up, etc. I also sell rural land and would like to be able to haul the tractor easily to maintain the properties I have for sale. Also plan to use it putting in food plots at the hunting camp. Probably will use a 6-7 ft bush hog, box blade, sprayer, etc.
Been looking at both a slightly used L5740HST and a new M6040 with hydraulic shuttle. Definitely like the hydro transmission on the 5740. Kinda like the bigger cab and overall beefier build of the 6040. My current trailer is a 20ft heavy duty pipe top bumper pull utility trailer with 2 8500lb axles. Its 83inches inside the pipe rails. The 6040 will JUST fit inside the rails, the 5740 will fit easily.
Honestly, I think the 5740 would be good for me, but it's just so small! Is the 5740HST a rugged tractor overall? Is the hydro drive reliable? Would it handle a box blade and 6ft mower?
The M6040 is a much more substantial tractor, but I'm afraid that it's going to be a pain for me to haul.
Soooo, would I be happy with the L5740 or should I go for the M6040?
