JD 3520
I own a JD 3520. Time to buy some toys! The JD dealer recommended their mx-6 cutter but with a nice price tag also. I had a king kutter from about 20 years ago and it has run beautifuly. But it's showing it's age. But I have been reading here that their quality and service may be in trouble. So what brands does everyone recommend.

I have about 25 acres to cut and like to be able to cut things up to 2"

Thanks

I have a 5' KK Rotary Cutter, and it's been a fine unit (few years old). Other than a couple shear pins, it's worked fine for what I use it for.

That being said - If you're going to be cutting a lot of 2" stuff, you may want to get a heavier-duty unit.

Perhaps hire it done the first time, and use your existing cutter to maintain it...

Landpride and Bush Hog make good quality equipment. I own both and would buy either again.
I owned a Woods brand rotary cutter that was good also. I traded for a bigger unit.
As with any manfacturer you get what you pay for. They all make different duty equipment.

I have a JD MX-5, used with my 3320 they are a bit spendy but I am amazed at how tough these beasts are, I have cut many miles of trails through my northern minnesota woods, I would highly recommend.

I have an MX6 and like it very well. Tough critter too.

These are pretty straight forward devices. Cost and "heavy duty-ness" go hand in hand. I have an MX6 and it's great. As for a MX6 vs. MX5, with your 30 HP PTO I think the MX5 would be a better match and a bit easier on the wallet. Maybe your dealer would let you try one out on your land to see how it works for your particular situation.
As you can tell from the posts, what your cutting has a impact on what you need.
If it's breaking new ground, Lunk's suggestions of hiring out the 1st cut and then getting a medium duty cutter has merit.

The grass is starting to grow here, so the time to mow is near :)

I have an older model King Kutter that was used HARD and it did well, but after looking at all of them I bought a Woods DS1260 and Land Pride recently.

I use a Woods 60 inch with my 3720. Plenty of power for 60". GET A SLIP CLUTCH, whatever you buy, or you will want to add one later. Its not the grass and stuff, its hitting the mounds of dirt that shear pins. Constantly some days. Real bummer.
One more caution: If you cut small trees up to 2 inch diameter, they will leave little stumps behind. The next time you mow or drive there they will want to stick thru the tires. If it were me, I'd pull all those little trees first, then mow.
