I found this grinder in my grandfathers old shed. I remember when I was a kid he used this to grind deer meat into burger and to make sausage. The grinder head says "Standard" on the other side ( not pictured) , But I don't think that is the name of the grinder motor its self. There was some kind of sticker right on the motor itself but it fell off long ago.

It has 3 openings to add oil to the motor, If you look close you can see the brass caps where the oil is to be added. That brings me to my other question, what kind of oil is to be added? Thanks for the help.

My best guess is 3 in 1 oil. Back in the day that was a standard for home type things like sewing machines and appliances.

There is/was a company named "Spong" that used to make a hand cranked grinder similar to your picture. They may have made made them with a motor as well. I could be your gramps adapted the motor to a hand cranked grinder, those old guys were real clever doing stuff like that.

I'm sure if you google hand cranked meat grinders and also include the name "spong", you will find someone trying to sell one on ebay.

Thanks for the lead Fred, I don't think my Grandad adapted the motor to a hand crank grinder. The grinder connects to the motor pretty nicely. You can tell it is manufactured for it.

Do the motor and grinder come apart easily so that other attachments can be driven by the motor?

Can you give us a nice clear picture of what remains of the label?

Sorry.... meant to also ask.... have you removed the die retaining collar and looked at the dies? One of my old grinders has the manufacturers name on them. In fact, the name was also cast into the worm as well....
