Hello ,
Here again I'm posting a unrelated tractor question with hopes someone knows of or has figured out the search.
I have a 2014 Toyota corolla with 17 inch wheels, I was told that I could go down to a 16 inch rim and tires. (winter studded).
I'm able to purchase the steel rims but need to convert the present 215-45-17 tire size to what is equal in the 16 inch range.
So basically I':thumbsup:m thinking a site that has a conversion chart. I havent been able to find anything, and I see many people have just asked it in searches.
Anyone have any link or suggestion to a chart? The best I can confirm is that a 205-55-16 might be do able?
wish I had old tires to do a comparison but I don't have any 16's
thanks ..

The first number is the width of the tire in MM.

The second number is the aspect ratio. So a 55 would have a sidewall height of 55% of what the width is (first number).

Go to any tire website that list tire specs. Look for tires that are close in height or "revs per mile" to what you have now. Then pick the width you want...

So...just picking a random michelin tire (size can vary slightly by brand)....your current 17" tire is...............

24.7" diameter and 844 revs per mile

The 205/55/16 is 24.9" and 836 revs per mile. Close enough not to worry about anything.

Nothing else I could find is any closer in a 16" rim.

There are also some 15" tires that come close as well.

But before you buy tires and/or rims, make sure you can go smaller. Make sure your brakes will clear

Your Corolla shares the same optional tires as my Vibe (or the Matrix, etc.).

So, my base Vibe is a P205/55R16. The optional sport tire is a P215/45R17. Same as yours. The only real concerns are for your speedometer (which any GPS can calibrate), and wheelhouse clearances (mostly a front wheel issue when steering to the max hard in small radius turns (as in parking). Make sure the wheel spider offset is the same.

I run Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires on my Vibes (I run a 150,000+ 2006 and also have a low mileage 2010 stashed in the barn for when the '06 motor lays down).

I bought extra wheels from an eBay seller and snows from Costco (on sale right now as I speak). Note that the Blizzaks don't come in all sizes, so I'm running P205/60R16s. The Vibe and the Corolla are snow bulldozers on REAL snow tires. Just be careful about the propellerhead behind you. You can out-stop them by a huge amount.
