I am currently in the market for a box scrape, I have called numerous dealers and they have qouted me different prices, the land pride 5 foot is around 1000.00, the bush hog is at 600.00 and the woods BSE5 is 550.00, I am hoping to get some input on this matter although I know it has been a subject in the past. To give you some back ground I will be using this on my 2320 to do driveway and grading but I am on a limited budget as you can imagine I am leaning toward the woods. All help will be greatly appreciated thanks again.

OK I wanted to give you an update on recent specs I read concerning the woods BSE5 and the bush hog CBX60 there both constructed with the same depth steel the big difference in the two are 1. the woods wieghs about 100 pounds more and 2. the the bush hog has bolted on 2 reversiable cutting edge verse the woods has a welded on cutting edge any help on this would be very useful thanks again....

Go with the bolt on reversable cutting edge as it is designed to be replaced when it wears out and it will over time. You get what you pay for.

Well me I would go for the heaviest one. Weight is your friend when it comes to a box blade.

Far from an expert, but these United units seems well built.

Moore...

I just acquired a 48" used box scraper this weekend for my JD 2320. Even though I know you are looking at the 60", I thought I would give my 2 cents since you still in the 'looking phase'. I went with the 48" b/c I wanted something ASAP and thought I could start small and always go bigger. Besides, I found a pretty good deal on a used unit.

a) I think 60" will be just fine with your machine. I ripped 12k sq ft this weekend for additional horse pasture. Ground was virgin with rocks and small roots (1-3") and the tractor never had to really work.

b) Below are some pics of the underside of the 4x4 square tube that runs the length of the BB (where the shanks slide up and down). As you can see, I had one shank push back through the cut out of the 4x4 square tube (I did pull out some pretty big rocks). 2nd pic = good; 3rd pic = bent; 4th pic = starting to bend.

c) I also agree with saskman49 in regards to a boltable cutting edge.

My advice when 'looking' at the different scrapers, is to see how heavy and robust the unit is. Be allowing different positions for the shanks, it creates a lever and in turn, the load on the shank is on a very small portion of the square tubing. For reference...I flipped my BB upside down to take pics. I also apologize for the low resolution pics as I had to use my blackberry that day.

Well after looking at all the prices and wieght, I think I am going to go with the united it wieghs 360 pounds and has bolt on edges which is a plus I am going to go with the 60 due to the fact I want to make sure I cover my tracks when grading thanks for all the input it is always great knowledge here and being new to this it has been very helpful with a wealth of knowledge on this site. Just an FYI (Temporarily blocked due to reports of company closure) has great deals with free shipping.
