Long story short, I got a short block and parts along with my basket case MF65 - which has a Continental G176 with a connecting rod that decided it wanted to see daylight.

So I started going through all the parts and was about to mount up the short block to an engine stand when bells started going off ... it's not the right block!

I have a call up to my cousin to see if we picked up the wrong block, but I don't think we did - I think it was just the wrong one to begin with. It's a Continental - I am pretty sure of that, but I cannot identify it - the ID plate is gone, replaced with what looks like a stamp from being rebuilt (12 - 21 - 88).

Any Continental gurus watching this that can help me get an ID on this thing?

Okay ... I figured it out. The markings on the block are "G 193 A" - it's a Continental G193 - used in air compressors and forklifts. :-/ I have a complete engine in parts. Maybe I can sell it for something to put toward picking up a new G176? Mystery solved.

Just a quick Google search came up with the G193A block as being an industrial engine. One parts site listed is as like used in forklifts, and air compressors.

Dang..., almost beat you to posting it..., LOL...

I've got a G 193 in the forklift, info on them is nearly impossible to come by, at least on the internet. Parts are quite expensive as well. Mine has a bad #3 cylinder which causes it to smoke and foul the plug often, was why it was so cheap. As little as I use it, I just live with it as it would probably cost around three times what I paid for it to fix it right.

Dang flyerdan - I have everything - carb, pistons, distributor, rods, crank, cam, head, valves, springs, etc, etc, etc. If we weren't a country apart (OR <-> OH), maybe I could help you out.

Well - thanks all for the input.

I just posted it on Craigslist for what I think is pretty reasonable.

I may try to repair the G176 block I have - but I also just saw one for sale for $375 - so if I can sell the G193, I have some pretty good options.
