Hi All

I have just bought a used bobcat s175, and found a couple things it needs but am in need of assistance.

Main problem, I found the alternator leaning a bit, so I raised the seat to inspect. and found that the bottom mounting bolt (the one that goes thru both ears and thru the gear cover is missing. And there lies the problem. been to the dealer twice and cant get the answer I am looking for. So I ask you guys. How to install the alternator? It seems straight forward but I believe that I am missing a part or 2. From the diagram on bobcat site. there is a bolt a bushing and a nut that goes thru both ears and the gear cover.

I was missing the bushing and the nut and bolt. So I go to bobcat to get the things I need and they don't have except for the alternator, so I have them pull the alt so I can look at it and it has the bushing in one of the ears. Is this the bushing in diagram? I thought it was so the guy at bobcat gets me a used alternator and pops it out and gives me the bushing. Great !!!

So I try to install with the bushing in the alternator, the way the new one was, but there is way to much space still inbetween the alternator ears and the gear cover. So is there another bushing or spacer? even if you tighten the bolt and squeesh the bushing out of the alternator to squeeze the gear cover there is to much space so I figure either theres another bushing or spacer or the cover is damaged, I don't know ? help maybe it says in a manual or maybe someone has changed one and can tell me what I am missing? Help!!

Here's what I suggest. take all the numbers off the alternator you have. Measure everything. Take a measurement of the distance between the ears where the alternator goes. Go back to Bobcat, maybe take the alt you have and match it up to their old one and new one and see if there are any differences. Take your model and serial # and engine serial # with you. Take pics of things you can't bring with you, like where the alternator goes and the ear spread, etc. post some of those here along with what you have for a bushing, etc.
Then maybe we can help more.

The bushing tube the parts guy gave you comes with the alternator, you also need bushing part number 6817556. Here is picture of it mounted.

SSdoxie thank you. I was missing all of that meaning not on the machine. the bottom bolt both bushings and the nut where all gone.

Is there a way I can blow that picture up bigger besides clicking on it? the ear on the gear cover is worn a bit so I might have to replace that cover. My next question: It looks like I might have to undo linkages to the injector pump? will the injector pump need to come off or will there need to be something timed? I guess what I am asking it whats enolved

if you can't get the large bushing ... get a piece of steel pipe , longer than you need .

cut it to size . to just fit between the ears ... slip a long bolt thru the works and put a self locking nut on the back side ... tighten away ...

as far as an ear hole being over sized , just remove the alt and bracket and drill to the next size bolt up for all the holes ... then install ...

You'll still want the dampening effect of a bushing on both sides of the alternator to keep the diodes and other critical parts from being vibrated to dust. That's why they're there in the first place. And not just between the ears but to suspend them from the entire hole section the bolt/sleeve passes through.

Took some pics and here is a page out of the manual for mine anyway. They should be the same but different. Looking at it the alternator mounts to a steel bracket then the bracket mounts to the front gear case cover. I would not want to have to replace that cover.

If you remove the fan duct and the plastic bracket for the fuel fill you should be able to get to a bunch easier. First time will bite, they are riveted together.

if you look close you can see the steel bracket.

Here is the page out of the manual for a 7753. The alternator and mount has been a battle for me also. If you do go in there and mess with the bracket, might I suggest having the alternator rebuilt. Throw a set of brushes and clean the slip rings, while it is out.
