I agree. Do not run Kero in you oil system. Especially with you doing all the work first.

How about Tranny and Hydrolics?

Running a kero flush in the hydros and tranny is fine. Just drain and run the tractor around the yard for 5 minutes with no load then drain again and refill with the proper fluids. Usually 80W90 for the tranny and front axle and AW32 for the hydros.

Did I mention to perform a good chemical flush & rinse of the cooling system? Oxalic acid is a very good cooling system cleaner.

One last suggestion - before you do the flushing and re-filling of the tranny and hydraulics you should thoroughly wash the whole tractor down. Use degreaser and a brush, whatever it takes to get rid of all the old mung and drool all over it. Then do the flush and look for any fresh mung and drool - find leaks that way. Fix any leaks you've discovered, wash again and fill with fresh proper oils and you should be good to go.

Actually there are no oil leaks on the tractor. It is dry and clean. I have a mechanic coming by tonight to rebuild a hydrolic cylinder and he would like to check the inside of the cylinder walls for the pistons. I don't have a book. Can anyone give me the specs for the cylinder walls for the 254? Just want to make sure I need new ones.

We are ready to start putting the engine back together. Had to get new pistons, rings and one set of inserts. Two of the pistons had peices of the piston that separates the rings broken. Each one had about an inch and 1/2 that came out when we started to clean up the pistons. It stayed together because of all the build up around the ring.
My question is, how tight should I get the rod bolt nuts and also the head bolts?

It's very likely that this was caused by using starting fluid and/or WD-40. The area you are referring to is called a ring land.

Torque specs should be in your manual.
