I have recieved 3 2nd chance offerings on tractors I bid on at ebay, one seller offers to ship anywhere in the us for $250. Has anybody had this happen, does ebay cover this kind of stuff if you were to send money? This has me very nervous about using ebay and there just isnt much of a selection here in Va. Thanks for any info

I'm sure those with more experience and give a better reply...

But my advice would be to trust your gut...

Nervous = DON'T DO IT!

At least in my opinion... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Smells and looks a scam simply on the freight. Nobody in their right mind would quote 250.00 shipping anywhere in the US. Try $1.00 to $1.50 per loaded mile.

Beware of sellers who want bank check or money order only, have no feedback or prior sales, no phone number and physical address, or who offer unusually low pricing or shipping. Any one of these should raise some suspicion.

Watch for a few weeks and you can see the blatant scams straight away. Then you can make a more informed purchase. There are deals but you have to search them out.

Good Luck,

I believe that there is a legit way to do a "second chance" offer on ebay, but with the number of scams on ebay, especially with high dollar items, don't risk it. Of course look at the seller's feedback and determine if they look legit. Have they ever sold a tractor before? If you want to, give us the item number of the tractor to take a look for ourselves.

Personally, I would be very skeptical. I bought a used tractor from a dealer in Alabama and paid $1000 to have it shipped to New Hampshire. I find it hard to believe that someone would eat that much money to sell his tractor..... except at a good Buy IT Now price.

I sell tractors on ebay. Don't have anyting to do with these 2nd chance offers. These ARE scams. If you want to find out about a tractor call them on the phone. After an auction closes of mine I will have people respond to me saying they got a 2nd chance offer and I didn't do it. These people will want to to Western Union money to them Don't Do IT!

I agree with the others, don't do it.
Ebay tries to tell its members not to get involved with these type deals, and no, they do not cover anything off Ebay.
Checking the feedback rating is no guarantee either, as many of good user's IDs are stolen and used in bogus auctions. We've had many posted here on TBN where that was the case and Ebay closed them down after finding out the owner never even knew what was going on.
That freight rate is the key indicator here. Run away. John

It's a scam I would think.

If you get a second chance offer and the auction has not yet ended, then you know 100% for sure it is a scam. A seller cannot offer a second chance via eBay until the auction has ended.

If it is too good to be true, it isn't true.

Thanks to everyone for the info.the one where I recieved the offer before the auction was over was easy to see, but there was another Kubota for a fair price, but that seller never responded to my request for a contact # So I just came across a couple of jerks at the same time,I will probably restrict future bidding to tractors I can drive to see from now on. Thanks again guys!

older couple I deal with (I do their ewb hosting and HTML coding for updating their on-line store stuff) has had 3 rip offs now, someone has stole their E-Bay id and used it to sell many big ticket items when they had been inactive for several weeks and hadn't thought about checking it. then they got several e-mails stating that the checks were in the mail... beware of short or quick auctions, expecially for big ticket items, 5 day at least or 7~10 day ones for anything that you would need a lot fo $ to buy. the buy it now price seems quite LOW then that also can be an indicator of a scam... remember the old addage if it seems too good to be true then it more than likely IS NOT TRUE!
