Tractor
YM 1700
My tractor is 330 miles from me. Going to buy a trailer so I can bring it home Thursday.
What size do you think is best to hold a Yanmar YM 1700,
4' box blade, 5' grader blade and a 24" rear scoop.
I've been looking at the 16' pipe, tandem axle with brakes.
I will be using the trailer doing odd jobs having to drive through busy town when not using for tractor. Would like a 14' if it would fit everything and tow Ok.
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I would recommend a 16ft "car hauler".
They usually have tandem 3500# axles, ramps, brakes on one axle, stake pockets for tie downs, and flat deck.
Then you can use it for hauling anything from a full size auto or truck, to almost anything. 16ft is standard around here, not 14ft. I try not to buy a trailer for only one purpose.

Ditto on the 16 foot. Putting the tractor with a loader or rough cut mower on a 14' won't be easy. You might also consider a landscape trailer. They are better for hauling loose materials (mulch, stone, dirt, etc) than a car hauler, plus they will hold the equipment and tractor. BTW have you considered how to get the equipment off the trailer when U get home. 1 piece can be on the tractor, but the others will probabley only fit at odd angles. Just a thought for when U load the trailer. Enjoy the new toys.

Like the others said. While you could get away with a 14' get the 16'.. it is a standard car hauler size. That 1700 and scoop will be like a 1/4 load for that trailer.

That 1700 is light.. I'm thinking? 1800#

When I bought mine years ago I was a tractor newby. The old man who helped me loaded it up on a single axle 10' trailer and I drove it home with my ford ranger... felt weird but worked for a short trip thru town. Nowadays that would make me faint thinking about it...

Here is a link to a very similar thread that has been discussed over the past 2 weeks. What trailer size?

Based on what you want to carry, I think you would have a very difficult time fitting it on a 14' trailer IF you have a front end loader on the Yanmar.

If you DON'T have a front end loader then I think you'd be able to fit it all on 14' without a heck of a lot of trouble.

You'd likely have to have the blades on sideways up near the front, probably with the scoop attached to the tractor's 3pt? Or some other way, but one small tractor, 3 fairly small implements, a little bit of creative placement and you will probably be fine. Take PLENTY of heavy duty ratchet straps, chains, etc to hold everything down & in place.

I just hauled a YM2000 and F20D at the same time on my 14.5' trailer. I also haul my Honda Accord and Hino N209 with loader and backhoe. My trailer has removable sides, so bumpers and loaders can extend past the deck. I am not recommending the smaller trailer, it just depends on how you plan to use it and what kind of deals you can find.

Sixteen footer is perfect size, although it's quite a load and requires a fairly hefty vehicle to safely haul it. I faced the same dilemma when I bought my 1700. I do not have a vehicle heavy enough to haul a 16 footer, so I had seller to deliver the tractor. I have a 5X8 single-axle trailer that will haul the tractor (without equipment) perfectly. This gives me a way to haul in case I need to have any work done that I can't perform, and my Tracker 4X4 can haul the single axle quite easily. Hope this helps.

I use a single axle, 10' trailer for my BX23 that my family had built in 1964.

We have NEVER had any problems and it has made several coast to coast trips hauling sports cars. Remember, a bigger trailer requires a bigger tow vehicle, etc., etc.

Two weeks ago I trailered the BX over 700 miles.

I say it comes down to trailer weight vs. payload.

meisal,
When I bought my 1700, I had a 6.5x12' single axle. I put the tiller in the truck bed and loaded the 1700 w/60" finish mower in the trailer. No problems with fit or weight.

Thanks all. A lot of good info to think about. I'm headed to N. Louisiana tomorrow noon. Have talked to a guy with a new 16' utility trailer. Upper pipe railing, wood floor, tandem axle, brakes on one axle, bulldog hitch, lights, new tires, metal ramps. 16' X 102" (load area - 83"). $1399
I do have an 02 GMC Sierra 2500HD that I tow my fifthwheeel with so that's no problem. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
