Help please with JD 317

Hi,
This is my first post. I just purchased a JD 317. The mower deck is trashed. Rusted thru, bad bearings and or spindles. Could anyone tell me what decks and sizes will fit? Dealership quoted me $1058.00 for new deck plus xtra $99.00 for kit to make it fit. I cannot afford that! I also need a parts list diagram so I can order other small parts. Are JD parts prices set by mfg or dealer? Anyone know a good place to buy JD parts discounted on line? Thanks for your help

The diagram and parts list for tractor and mowers are available through Deere's website. It's a little hard to find but you'll know when you see a page with several seperated windows. Enter your tractors model number (317) and search, you'll find equipment using that model number. Select the correct one (317 hydrostatic tractor) and then select the appropriate categories. You can buy the parts directly to repair your current deck although you might find that in the long run, it may be more cost effective to buy the new deck and be done with it knowing everything on the deck is new. I am not aware of anyone selling discounted deere parts online with a full selection. You might find sellers selling bits/peices here or there with discountd parts but probably not the full selection that you are goind to need. You can print the parts list and diagram for your tractor directly from the Deere website.

Bill, go to Weekend Freedom Machines - lots more 317 action than here, and you might find someone with a used deck. From your description the deck is pretty well shot.

Most of the Deere parts are available only from Deere dealers. KeepingItGreen.com - The Right Parts for Your John Deere Equipment is cheaper than my local dealer, but not by much. The difference covers shipping, though, and I have had good service from them.

I see decks on ebay quite frequently. If you know what deck you have now just keeping checking ebay for a few days/weeks and you might get an exact match.
